External Corrosion & Cathodic Protection Assessment

Assessment of external corrosion threats and cathodic protection effectiveness on pipeline systems and buried or submerged equipment, supporting corrosion management and integrity assurance for below-grade assets.

External corrosion is a primary integrity threat for buried pipelines, underground piping, and submerged equipment. TES Canada provides engineering assessment of external corrosion conditions and cathodic protection system effectiveness, helping operators understand whether their corrosion mitigation measures are performing as intended and whether external corrosion threats are being adequately managed.

Assessment services include review of cathodic protection survey data — such as pipe-to-soil potential measurements, close-interval surveys, and current drain surveys — evaluation of coating condition and degradation, assessment of external corrosion identified through ILI or direct examination, and comparison of measured corrosion rates against design and remaining life assumptions. TES Canada applies applicable NACE/AMPP practices and CSA Z662 requirements to evaluate cathodic protection adequacy and external corrosion threat severity.

Assessment deliverables provide operators with a documented evaluation of their external corrosion and CP management posture, identification of areas where protection may be inadequate, and recommendations for monitoring, remediation, or system improvement. The assessment integrates with the operator's broader pipeline integrity management and corrosion control programmes.
